faq
» Is it ok if I've taken Anatomy and Physiology as separate courses ?
Yes, as long as you had labs with both courses.

» May I apply before I am licensed as a registered nurse ?
Yes, as long as you are eligible to take the exam but you cannot take nursing clinical courses until you have received your licensure.

» May I attend part time ?
Many of our students continue their jobs as they complete the nursing program. We provide a flexible curriculum to fit both part time and full time schedules, as you choose.

» How long will it take me to complete the nursing program ?
The program is designed to accommodate your schedule and you can complete it in as few as 4 semesters (if attending full-time). On average, students that attend part-time finish in 3-4 years.

» Where will I get clinical experience ?
Our clinical courses are conducted in community-based locations such as the health departments, school districts and non-acute home health agencies.

» When are nursing classes offered ?
We offer classes at a variety of times during the day and late afternoon to fit different work schedules. Many students take their general education courses in the evening or online and nursing classes during the day. If you attend full-time, classes are typically 2-3 days per week each semester. If you attend part-time, classes are typically 1-2 days per week each semester.

» Will I meet requirements for nursing graduate school ?
In general, yes. In fact, about 60% of our students attend graduate studies. Students are advised to consult with the institution from which they plan to obtain their MSN.

» What is the best way to transfer ?
The best way for a student to transfer is to complete their general education lower division requirements, i.e., become GE certified, and lower division major requirements prior to transfer. For example, nursing students must have an Associate degree in nursing and have current RN licensure (or be in the process of obtaining licensure) prior to transfer. We recommend that all transfer candidates visit their Community College Transfer Center or the CSUF BSN advisor.

» How many units can I transfer to CSUF ?
If you attended a community college, you may apply 70 transferable units towards the degree requirements. If you attended both a community college and a university, you may apply up to 94 transferable units towards the degree requirements.

» What if I've completed some upper division and/or Nursing courses at a University already?
In general, units taken at a four-year institution are accepted. However, each student must complete a minimum of 30 units to obtain the BSN at CSUF and 9 of these units must be upper division general education. Upper division Nursing courses taken previously at a University will not automatically be used in lieu of our BSN courses. Students must file a formal petition to request to waive any BSN courses. Contact the Nursing advisor for more information.

» When do I send in my application ?
You may begin applying for admission in November for the following Fall semester and in August for the following Spring semester. Application deadlines change each year. Check the current application for deadlines.

» Do I need to mail in my transcripts with my application ?
Official transcripts are needed in order to process your university application and should be maile to Admissions and Records at P.O. Box 6900. Unofficial copies of transcripts should also be sent to the Department of Nursing.

» How long does it take to be admitted?
In general it takes 8-10 weeks for the regular admissions process. It also depends on whether you submit all requested material in a timely manner.

» Can I take summer classes to meet a University requirement like Math and still be admitted to the fall semester ?
Yes, if you are missing a prerequisite class or one of the four basic classes required by the University(Speech, English, Math), you can take it in the summer prior to transfer. You must complete the class with a "C" or better before the semester begins. To speed up the admission process ask your professor for a signed grade card showing that you received a "C" or better and turn it into Admissions immediately after the class ends.

» Do you accept high school Chemistry as a prerequisite course?
No. A general or intro Chemistry class, with lab, must be taken at a Community College or University.
