We are pleased to announce that California State University, Fullerton, Department
of Nursing is admitting students to the Generic or Entry-Level Bachelor of Science
Degree in Nursing (EL-BSN) option. This EL-BSN degree is designed for students desiring
to enter the field of nursing. This EL-BSN degree study plan provides the coursework
and clinical experiences needed to qualify students for licensure as a registered
nurse (RN) and also awards a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major
in Nursing (hereafter called BSN). Students will gain the knowledge base
and skill set grounded in a scientific discipline and the art of professional nursing
to assure quality nursing care for patients as baccalaureate prepared RN.
The 3-year curriculum of the EL-BSN pathway provides students with scientific, clinical,
and professional foundations upon which to build sound and safe nursing care. Coursework
will provide theoretical knowledge and clinical experiences in the areas of Medical-Surgical,
Maternal/Child, Mental Health/Psychiatric, Geriatric, and Community-based nursing
that qualifies the student for RN licensure.
The core program also includes courses in nursing theory, cultural competency, healthcare policy, ethics, and professional
role development.
Due to budget cuts, upper division transfers are
no longer being considered for 2010 - 2011 university admission as pre-nursing majors.
AB 540 Students
Our Consortium of Clinical
Sites require that all Nursing Program students obtain a 'negative' result on the
required Criminal Background Check. For the Criminal Background Check to be completed,
students need a valid Social Security Number or a valid F-1 Visa. Until there
is some form of Immigration reform to grant citizenship to AB 540 students, such
students cannot currently be admitted to any of our Nursing Programs. AB 540
students may want to pursue a degree here at the University in another discipline,
while also meeting the specific course requirements for the Nursing major, so as
to be prepared for entry in the future to the EL-MSN program, once the law changes.
We encourage such students to meet with a Nursing Advisor to plan out their coursework
carefully.
