Test of Essential
Academic Skills (TEAS)
All applicants to the Cal State Fullerton EL-BSN program are required to take the
TEAS exam, produced by Assessment Technologies, Inc. (ATI). No
other assessment will be accepted in lieu of the TEAS exam. You must score a minimum
of 78.0% for your composite score on this exam.
This test can be taken twice and we will use your highest composite score
(as defined in more detail below) in determining your points earned. The exam is
offered at Cal State Fullerton during the fall semester for a fee but can be taken
at any location it is offered. It is recommended that you wait to take this exam
until you have
completed at least some of the science pre-nursing core requirements. If you take
the exam here at our University, we will automatically receive your scores. If you
take the exam elsewhere, you must have your TEAS score sent to us electronically
via ATI Testing.
This exam includes the following four subtests:
- The MATH subtest covers whole numbers, metric
conversions, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.
- The
READING
subtest covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.
- The ENGLISH subtest measures knowledge of punctuation,
grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.
- The SCIENCE portion of the exam covers science
reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic
physical principles, and general science.
Your overall composite score is a predictor of your likelihood of success to complete
the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. You must score a minimum of 78% for your
overall, TEAS composite score based on the four subtests, as noted above.
For exams taken outside of CSUF, please submit your scores along with your application
packet. TEAS exam scores are valid for one year from the date taken.
ATI has study manuals and online testing resources to help prepare you for the TEAS.
You can purchase preparatory materials for the TEAS directly from ATI at:

NOTE:
It is advisable to sign up early to guarantee that you can
take the test on the date you want to.
There is two time limit of taking the TEAS and you
must achieve a minimum score at least 78% to be eligible to submit an application
to the Department of Nursing.
