Entry Level-BSN

Are you interested in becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) with a baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN)?

We are offering a new pre-licensure option at Cal State Fullerton. This degree provides coursework and clinical experiences needed to qualify students for RN licensure and also awards a BSN

Requirements for Admission to the University:

Admission to the EL-BSN program is a two step process. For first time freshmen, the first step requires an application to the University as a “pre-nursing” major. This application is normally made in October-November of the year prior to the desired start date for first time freshmen. For example, for students wishing to start the pre-nursing sequence in Fall 2008, the application period was October 1, 2007 – November 30, 2007 Following admission to the pre-nursing major as a freshman, you may complete the required pre-requisite courses needed for admission to the nursing (EL-BSN) major in your sophomore year.

Transfer students are an exception to this process because they do not take pre-requisite courses at the University. Upper division transfer students apply to the University October 1- November 30, 2008 and the Department of Nursing October 1- November 30, 2008 and must meet the requirements for admission to the University and the Department of Nursing. Lower division transfer students submit an application to the Department of Nursing only.

Requirements for Admission to the Department of Nursing:

The second step in the process requires an application to the Department of Nursing for review/selection as an EL-BSN nursing major. Applications to the Department of Nursing will be accepted October 1, 2008 – November 30, 2008 for Fall 2009. Review of applications will take place in Spring 2009 with forty-eight (48) selected students admitted to the EL-BSN nursing major beginning Fall 2009. Applicants will be screened according to the Supplemental Admission Criteria included in the attached EL-BSN application package.

Information Sessions and TEAS exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills)

All applicants will be required to attend an information session that will provide more information about the application process, assessment testing (TEAS exam), pre-requisite coursework, and will also provide an opportunity for you to ask questions. Applicants will be required to take the TEAS exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills) and must receive a minimum composite score of 74.0% in order to be considered for entry into the pre-licensure BSN program. This exam includes the following four subtests: Math, Reading, English, and Science. The TEAS will be offered on campus fall 2008 semester. More information about the TEAS will be provided at your scheduled information session.
