degree in a field other than nursing, provides the coursework and clinical experiences
needed to qualify students for licensure as a registered nurse (RN) and also awards
a Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN).
The EL-MSN
degree will produce critically needed nursing graduates who will:
-
demonstrate safe, competent nursing care for a variety
of patients across the continuum of care;
-
assume clinical leadership in various health care settings;
-
improve patient care by collecting data and creating and
implementing plans of care in collaboration with an intradisciplinary health care
team;
-
implement evidenced-based research, outcomes-based practice,
and quality improvement strategies; and
-
manage complex systems of care that are cost effective
and responsive to the health care needs of the community and society.
The curriculum
of the EL-MSN option provides students with scientific, clinical, and professional
foundations upon which to build sound and safe nursing care. Coursework (18 months)
will provide theoretical knowledge and clinical experiences in the areas of Medical-Surgical,
Maternal/Child, Mental Health/Psychiatric, Geriatric, and Community-based nursing
that qualifies the student for RN licensure.
The core program also includes courses in nursing theory, epidemiology, healthcare
policy, ethics, and professional role development.
