Entry Level-MSN Pre-Requisite Courses
All applicants to the
EL-MSN program must complete the following approved undergraduate courses prior
to entering the program: Chemistry (combined inorganic, organic and biochemistry),
Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Microbiology, Psychology, Statistics, Beginning
English Writing, and Speech (Public Speaking or Interpersonal Communication).
**Chemistry: CHEM 200 at CSUF or
an approved undergraduate level chemistry course that introduces
the fundamental concepts of general, organic and biochemistry and their applications
to the health sciences (minimum of 4 units and must include a lab component). We will also accept any Introductory or General Chemistry
course with lab AND a one-semester course of introduction to Organic and Biochemistry
course with lab.
Approved Chemistry Courses
**Human
Anatomy:
KNES 191A at CSUF or a human anatomy course that includes: Structural survey of
human body, including skeletomuscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive,
and genitourinary systems (minimum of 4 units and
must include a lab component). Or an integrated
4-5 unit Anatomy/Physiology I course with lab.
Approved Human Anatomy Courses
**Human
Physiology:
BIOL 191B, BIOL 310 and 310L at CSUF or a human physiology course that includes
human systems physiology through cell physiology with emphasis on membrane properties
(minimum of 4 units and must include a lab component).
Or an integrated 4-5 unit Anatomy/Physiology
II course with lab.
Approved Human Physiology Courses
**Microbiology: BIOL 202, BIOL 302
at CSUF or a microbiology course that covers introduction to biology of microorganisms
(bacteria, viruses, protozoa, algae, fungi), their significance as model systems
for understanding fundamental cellular processes, and their role in human affairs
(minimum of 4 units and must include a lab component).
Approved Microbiology Courses
English Composition:
A college level writing course usually completed during the first two years
of a baccalaureate program. Students who receive a waiver of this requirement in
their baccalaureate program due to successful completion of an Advanced Placement
Examination must submit proof of the Advanced Placement Examination score.
Speech: A Communication Studies
course that provides an introduction to theory and practice
of interpersonal communication. Or a Public Speaking course that
covers the theory and presentation
of public speeches, including an analysis of determinants of comprehension and attitude
formation; selection and organization of speech materials, development of delivery
skills and evaluation of message effectiveness.
To see if courses at your community college will transfer to Cal State Fullerton,
you may check on ASSIST, a database that houses the transfer agreements between
all California community colleges and California public universities. The website
address for ASSIST is www.assist.org. You may
also contact the Transfer Center or Counseling Center at your community college
for assistance.
Psychology: An introductory or
general psychology course that includes topics in cognitive, experimental, personality,
developmental, social and clinical psychology. No topical courses will be accepted
( i.e. Abnormal Psychology).
Statistics: SOCI 303, HESC 349
or an upper division introductory or equivalent biostatistics course that covers
the following topics: distributions, sampling, tests of hypotheses, estimation,
types of error, significance and confidence intervals, and sample sizes.
Approved Statistics Courses
Sociology or Cultural
Anthropology:
An introductory or general course in Sociology or Cultural Anthropology. No topical
courses will be accepted (i.e. Sociology of Families).
** Please note: All science courses must have
been completed within 5 years of applying for the program. There is no recency requirement
for the English, Speech, Psychology, Sociology/Cultural Anthropology, or Statistics
pre-requisites.
