The purpose of the Maria Dolores Hernandez Scholarship Fund is to develop the full leadership potential of students in the nursing profession through a unique combination of formal education, professional guidance by a faculty advisor, interaction with the community-based nominator, peer support, and exposure to professional activites. The endowment was given to California State University, Fullerton, Department of Nursing in January 1998. Following community and nursing leadership input, criteria were developed and approved, and the nomination process was opened to the community.
