WELCOME TO SCHOOL NURSING

Dear Prospective School Nursing Student:
The CSU Fullerton School Nursing Programs provide a comprehensive educational foundation that encompasses child development and health, health management within school systems and health education. This foundation prepares the professional school nurse to “facilitate positive responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning” (NASN, June 1999).

CSU Fullerton offers the following program options for School Nurse Education.
School Nurse Services Credential(SNSC)
Master of Science in Nursing, School Nursing Concentration (Includes coursework for the SNSC and STAH)
Post SNSC Master of Science in Nursing, School Nursing Concentration (For students who have completed SNSC, coursework for this MSN includes coursework for STAH)
Special Teaching Authorization in Health (STAH)authorizes the holder to teach health classes in preschool, kindergarten, grades 1-12 inclusive, and classes organized primarily for adults.

Outstanding features of the CSU Fullerton School Nursing Program:
  • Online coursework (accessibility via a distance program)
  • Courses developed specifically to focus on the competencies and knowledge needed by school nurses
  • All credential and STAH coursework count toward a Master of Science in Nursing degree
  • Flexible study plans
  • Some Special Teaching Authorization Coursework integrated into the credential program
