Special Teaching Authorization in Health
|
The Special Teaching Authorization in Health the student
to teach health classes in preschool, kindergarten, grades 1-12, and classes organized
primarily for adults
The STAH coursework consists of nine units including a practice teaching experience.
Six of the nine units are educational pedagogy or “how to teach” classes and are
on-line. With the STAH, nurses may become “faculty of record” for health education
or health content classes in school districts and engage in all the teaching for
a given health course. Without the STAH, the nurse may be invited to do “guest”
presentations in the classroom but must be under the supervision of a credentialed
teacher. The STAH allows the holder not only to teach without supervision, but also
to design and teach an entire health education course or health instructional program,
to evaluate the learners, and assume all responsibility as faculty of record for
health curriculum. Further, the STAH provides the nurse with an additional employment
option within a school district.
