María Dolores Hernández Scholarship

Major Hernandez Amount: $1,000 - $5,000 (subject to funding)
This scholarship is named for María Dolores Hernández, a nursing leader in Orange County and an officer in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, to support the efforts of nursing students who aspire to leadership in the nursing profession.

Criteria: This scholarship is open to current CSUF nursing students in pursuit of their Bachelors or Masters; Doctorate students are not eligible to apply. Must enroll in at Least 6 Units towards BSN or MSN at CSUF * 3.0 GPA * Financial Need *Record of Leadership * Leadership Potential in Nursing

You can prepare to apply by doing the following:

  • Gather contact information, including email address, for a community-based nominator. You will need to provide this on your application. Your nominator will be asked to complete a recommendation form on your behalf and it is best to let them know this in advance.
  • Update your resume to include all education and nursing work experience.
  • Start working on your Leadership Statement. You will be asked to address the following:

a. Outline your personal goals for professional involvement.
b. Describe your leadership capabilities and provide specific examples and outcomes/benefits to others.
c. What health care needs will you strive to meet?
d. How will this scholarship help you achieve all of the above?

Applications accepted between October 1st and April 1st.

Awardees will be recognized in May 2018.

Stephanie Hernández Memorial Scholarship

Stephanie Hernandez Amount: $100 - $500 (subject to funding)
This scholarship is named for Stephanie Hernández, whose family and friends are keeping Stephanie’s legacy alive by supporting recognizing CSUF students pursuing their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Stephanie passed away just after commencement in May 2011. Her BSN was awarded posthumously.

Criteria: This scholarship is open to current CSUF pre-licensure BSN students who have completed at least one semester in the CSUF nursing program, but are not in their final semester.

Past Stephanie Hernández Scholarship Recipients

Stephanie Hernández (1989-2011): Stephanie dedicated her life to the service of humanity. She excelled at everything she did. She was academically well rounded and participated in sports. She graduated from high school with academic honors and as an athlete scholar. Stephanie was an incredible woman of character, a very noble, grateful and spiritual woman who never complained about the tasks or challenges at hand. While working at St. Joseph’s Hospital her love and compassion shined through working with newborns in the neonatal unit. Each task she performed was done with dignity and love as if each patient was her own.

b. Discuss how you emulate Stephanie’s values and characteristics of exemplary study habits, strong work ethic, dedication, motivation, and enthusiasm for life and the profession of Nursing.

Titan Shops Scholarship

Titan Shops Logo Amount: $100 - $500 (subject to funding)
This scholarship was established by the Titan Shops and is administered by the School of Nursing to support students who are in need of financial assistance.

Criteria: This scholarship is open to current CSUF nursing students in pursuit of their Bachelors or Masters; Doctorate students are not eligible to apply. Students should have completed at least two semesters in the CSUF nursing program and not be in their final semester. * 3.0 GPA * Financial Need *Record of Leadership * Demonstrates Need

a. Describe your educational and employment background.
b. Discuss your service activities within the School of Nursing, College of Health & Human Development, CSUF, and/or the community.
c. Describe your financial need; especially how this scholarship would assist you in continuing with your degree program.

Applications accepted between October 1st and April 1st.

Awardees will be recognized in May 2018.

Jonas nurse scholar program

Jonas Nurse Logo Amount: $5,000 - $10,000 per year (number of scholarships and amount of award is subject to funding)
The awards support doctoral nursing students. The goal of the Jonas Nurse Leaders Program is to increase the number of doctorally-prepared faculty available to teach in nursing schools nationwide, as well as the number of advanced practice nurses providing direct patient care. The Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program is a component of the Nurse Scholar Program that aims to increase the number of advanced practice nurses and faculty who are trained specifically in the unique needs of our veteran population.
