DNP Application Process

University Application

The Fall 2024 application will be available beginning October 1, 2023 online through Cal State Apply.

The online  Cal State Apply  opens in a new window  application will require the following:

  • Completion of online application form which will ask for bio/demographic information and details about your previous education.
  • Names and contact information, including email addresses, for three professional recommendations. These individuals will receive an email with directions to complete the recommendation.
  • Current resume detailing all education and nursing work experience.
  • Personal Statement - in 500 words or less describe your reason(s) for pursuing the DNP at CSU Fullerton.
  • Copy of your current CA RN license.
  • Individual unofficial transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.
  • Official documentation of nursing practicum hours attained during your master's degree program or post-master's certificate program.
  • Application fee paid online when submitting the application.

Official Transcripts Requirement

After completing the online application, you must submit the following:

  • Official transcripts from the college/university where you received your Bachelor's degree
  • Official transcripts from the college/university where you received your Master's degree

No other transcripts are needed to complete the initial application. Applicants will be notified if additional transcripts are needed.

Electronic transcripts are preferred. Your transcripts must be submitted directly to CSUF Admissions by the application deadline. Review the  Admissions website  link opens in a new window  for instructions.

Interview & Writing Assessment

Completed applications will be forwarded to a faculty committee for review. The faculty committee will review, evaluate, and score the application including transcripts, personal statement, and recommendations. The highest scored applicants will be invited to interview and complete a writing assessment.

In the interview, faculty will meet with each applicant to talk with them about reason(s) for seeking a DNP degree and professional career goals. Students should be prepared to discuss their areas of practice interest, background preparation for doctoral education, and ideas about topics they are considering for a doctoral project.

The purpose of the writing assessment is to demonstrate the ability of the DNP applicant to critically analyze an advanced practice issue/scenario, formulate a plan/stance, organize, and write a coherent, succinct, graduate-level essay response.

Application Deadlines

The Fall 2024 application will be available starting October 1, 2023. The Fall 2024 priority application deadline is February 1, 2024. Applications received after February 1, 2024 will be considered based on space available.

The following items must be submitted by this date:

  • Online application, including all recommendations submitted
  • University application fee
  • Official electronic transcripts to CSUF Admissions
