As a reminder, one of your contractual obligations is to secure and maintain eomployment as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Orange County for at least one year following your graduation (conferral) date. Below are available resources provided by the School of Nursing and the Career Center. We highly encourage investing in yourself by utilizing the available resources to maximize your opportunities and chances of employment. You will find resources related to resume building, how to write a cover letter, and interview preperation and practice. 

School of Nursing

  • Dr. Kate Bayhan, has prepared mutiple documents that provide useful information for your success in finding employment. This Commonly Asked Questions PDF, contains nursing interview questions separated into their purpose. This Nursing Interview PowerPoint, serves as a good starting point to understand the interview process, as well as how to dress, how to act, and what to bring with you to an interview. She also illustrates what employers are looking for when they read your resume with this Nursing Resume PowerPoint, which offers insight and tricks to increase the chances that your resume is properly read and not overlooked.
  • The School of Nursing has a Writing Center with an excellent Academic Writing Tutor that you are more than welcome to reach out to to learn how to write a professional reumse, cover letter, and personal statement. Please reach out to [email protected] to schedule an appointment

Career Center

  • The Career Center has a multitude of services on their website at your disposal. You have access to these resources while a student and for one-year after graduating from CSUF. 
  • You can make a 50-minute one-on-one appointment for interview prep, to hold a mock interview, or prepare your LinkedIn profile. Schedule a session today at your discretion.
  • Need help with your resume or cover letter? Stop by during their Drive-thru hours in-person or virtually to go over your resume for hands-on tailoring. You can find Cover letters and resume tips, as well as browse their browse their Interviewing Resources main page, as well as their Job Interviews page. The Career Center offers a service for you to take professional headshots for LinkedIn profiles as well. 
  • Can't make it to campus or there are no available appointments? Make use of Hiration, a ChatGPT powered Career Platform service provided by CSUF's Career Center. Upload a copy of your resume and the job description of the position to which you would like to apply to, and Hiration will provide a score and feedback for your resume. You can also practice interviewing with Hiration with the use of a webcam where it can provide you with feeback on your answers.

  • The New Grad Nursing Interview Coach provides both free and paid resources designed to help you find employment as a nurse that are designed to highlight your qualifications and experiences and ensure that employers process as much information as possible, and help you prepare for commonly asked interview questions, clinical scenario questions, and more.   • The National Associate of Colleges and Employers has providede a breakdown of the 8 compentencies that employers look for in employees. You are encouraged to familiarize yourself with the competencies to understand what employees want to see in an employee. Please utilize the resources available on this website.
